Taiwanese tea
The beautiful island of Taiwan, called Formosa by the Portuguese, is the birthplace of Gao Shan oolongs. In the mid-19th century, the first tea plants from Anxi and Wuyi, China were brought to Taiwan for the production of tea. The high mountains (Alishan, Lishan, Shan Li Xi, etc.) have become popular growing areas for “High Mountain oolongs (> 1000 meters). Taiwanese tea is fragrant and aromatic, and world famous. The tea has a balanced richness of taste and texture. The cultivation at high altitude, fresh thin mountain air, a mineral-rich soil, mist and short periods of sunshine, ensure a delayed ripening of the leaves, resulting in exceptionally complex and delicate flavors.
