Bhutan

ea from Bhutan is closely linked to the culture, history and nature of this country in the Himalayas. Bhutan only started producing tea in the second half of the last century. At the initiative of the second king of Bhutan, His Majesty, or His Royal Highness Jigme Wang Chuck, who had a lavish tea garden built near his palace, his vision was to make tea available to all the people of Bhutan. The tea we sell comes from this tea garden. Bhutan has an ideal climate for growing tea, with its mountainous location, fresh air and pure water sources. These natural conditions contribute to the production of true-to-life artisanal tea. Tea plantations are mainly located in the southern regions of the country, such as Samcholing and Lhuentse, where the subtropical to temperate climates are perfect for tea production. A unique aspect of Bhutanese tea is its emphasis on sustainable farming, which is closely linked to the philosophy of “Gross National Happiness,” which prioritises well-being and environmental protection. Tea production in Bhutan is largely carried out on a small scale by local farmers who pride themselves on their sustainable practices.
