Formosa Purple tea
Purple Tea from Taiwan is a fairly new and unique variety. This tea was created by crossing existing tea varieties, which resulted in a specific genotype. Purple Tea is characterized by a purple hue in the leaves, which is a result of anthocyanins the antioxidants that also give berries and other fruits their color. The flavor of Purple Tea from Taiwan is often described as a delicate and refined combination of floral and slightly fruity notes, with a smooth finish. It is less bitter than some other green teas and is an approachable choice. Although Purple Tea is not native to Taiwan (the variety was first developed in Kenya), Taiwanese tea gardens have recently begun growing the variety, noting that Taiwan’s milder climate and careful growing methods have contributed to the high quality of the tea.
