European tea
In the Azores, the first tea bushes were probably introduced around 1750. The first production was very small, only 10 kg and 8 kg of black tea and green tea and although these amounts seem small today, they were a sufficient stimulus to go ahead in that time. In 1878, the "Sociedade Promotora da Agricultura Micaelense" (a regional organization, which helped the promotion of agriculture) decided to support the tea culture as one of the local agricultural varieties. That same year, 2 Chinese men from the city of Macau, were specifically employed, in order to associate the Oriental techniques with this new culture.
